Yes, actually I'm planning to head there next week and one at exactly this location would be ideal as I want to go into the Welsh Valleys with a stop at Symonds Yat. I'm just working out whether it is best to go in the Leaf or the ICE.

Hay-on-Wye would open up mid Wales
Ross end of the M50. The services area with a Starbucks looks ideal
Hi Mystified and All, I live in the south wales valleys and I'm just about to sign a bargin lease deal on a 30kWh leaf. I'm shocked at there not being a charge point at Strensham South or anywhere down the M50, A40, A449. I've just spoken to euro garages who own the services at Ross-on-Wye and the two newly opened services at Monmouth. They said they are in negotiations with Ecotricity for chargers at the Monmouth services but they they are a little slow as Ecotricity are trying to push the costs on to eurogarages.

Lets hope they get it sorted soon......

Any rapids along this route would be great, but just Monmouth services southbound on it's own, no good for most BEV's.

Too far from previous rapids when travelling south, Frankley (M5), Hopwood (M42), or Arbury Nissan (Bromsgrove).

Forget the stupidly priced council ones, too much of a diversion anyway, and don't help the situation.

Ross on Wye (Starbucks or KFC) and Monmouth (north and south) would be good.

That filling station on the dual-carriageway about a mile before the Welsh border, and the truckstop / diner / filling station on the opposite side are ideal.

I was thinking that people could post on here where they think new rapid chargers are most needed and why. Perhaps the companies installing them (Ecotricity, CYC etc will take some notice).

Here are a few black spots that I've noticed:

A303 between London and Exeter (perhaps one at Amesbury and one near Yeovil) as this would provide an alternative to the M4/M5 and open up Wiltshire and Dorset.

A3 between London and Portsmouth (ideally one just south of Guildford and another near Portsmouth itself). This would make it possible to make day trips to this area of the South Coast.

M20 between London and Dover (at either Ashford or Folkstone). This would make it a lot easier to visit Dover (the castle, the White Cliffs, day trips to France etc).

A11 between Cambridge and Norwich (near the Norwich ringroad). This would make it possible to visit the Norfolk Broads, Norwich and rest of NE Norfolk without worrying about charge.

As for price - something like 10p per minute would seem reasonable to me. That way people would not generally charge to over 80% unless they really needed to.
Amesbury would be an excellent location

Wales. Enough to be able to do all major trunk routes : North Wales to South Wales is currently not feasible without a slow charge or two somewhere.
: Some in Pembrokeshire (currently no rapid chargers in entire county);
: Something in Ceredigion (currently no rapid chargers in entire county);
: Something in Powys (currently no rapid chargers in entire county),
: Something in Southern Gwynedd (away from the A55 corridor)

something that works beyond the M4 (The Carmarthenshire Council Chademo at Nant-y-Ci has been barely working in years)
I have a mini campaign to get Rapid into Abergavenny at Waitrose, thus opening a few routes notably 'Heads of the Valley road towards West Wales. It would also open up a route via Brecon and towards North Wales too. Has anyone contacted the local councils and businesses on this? The more the merrier!

I have it on good authority the KIA will be getting a charger in Narberth and that hey plan to install Rapids or Fast at their UK dealers. I hope this will be well thought out.

Put one at every Shell petrol station in the country charge ÂŁ5 for complete charge
Mad but it would solve the gaps!

As a business model one of the petrol company's will break soon and offer this I am sure.
Petrol companies need to start thinking about the captive audience staying for 30 or more minutes to charge their vehicle

I'm sure there's a huge opportunity to profit from this captive audience, in addition to charging them for the electric

I wrote to Eurogarages about this site, but have had no reply. Are they re opened now?

When they reopened I asked Eurogarages via Twitter and they said there are no plans for the foreseeable. Have also had some correspondence with Monmouthshire County Council to no avail. Would be happy to add my voice to a mini campaign for a charger at Waitrose. There is a new service station under construction in the same vicinity, it would make sense to include a rapid there.

I agree the whole of East Yorkshire is barren, it would be great to drive up the coast via Whitby then its only a short hop into EV country north of Yarm and into Scotland.

wales in general, I mean I know we don't need more than 10 in the whole country but it would be nice, maybe even just put one back at J36, or along the a470 so you could progress past Brecon, and get back from the motorway

You'd think that the EU's Ten-T RCN stuff should have covered all major E-routes, including the E30 (which in the UK is known as the A40 / A48 / M4 / M25 / A12 routes), but they didn't fund anything along the M4 / A48 / A40.

my worry is that if we do leave the EU ev support will pretty much be dropped, maybe if we stay in he EU this project will move to include more UK roads? Or maybe wales is seen to not be financially viable to support EV's?

to be honest I'm still amazed we have electricity in wales

Yes. The WAG has shown very little interest in supporting EVs. Ecotricity does not have enough money to fund this on their own.

Best hope is a second round of RCN funding. (1/2 EU, 1/2 Nissan, Renault, BMW, VW and Ecotricity)

Here on Anglsey we have "Energy Island" -- Mostly that is the WAG and local council getting behind a new nuclear plant and a biomass plant. Anglsey council is about as anti-wind as they come.
